ME-884 Convection Heat Transfer
Campus PNEC
Programs PG
Session Fall Semester 2016
Course Title Convection Heat Transfer
Course Code ME-884
Credit Hours 3-0
Pre-Requisutes
Course Objectives To provide students with insight to understand convection phenomena physically and mathematically. Student shall attain the knowledge to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems involving forced convection heat transfer, natural convection heat transfer, and heat exchangers. At the end of this course:
  • Student will be able to develop mathematical modeling for convection heat transfer engineering problems
  • Student will be able to solve and analyze engineering problems using advance numerical and analytical techniques
Detail Content Convection and mass-transfer principles, including boundary-layer phenomena in laminar and turbulent flow; internal flows; heat transfer in high-velocity flow, numerical methods. Following topics will be covered:
  • Introduction, Conservation Principles and Transport Laws
  • Heat Transfer: The laminar external boundary layer
  • Heat Transfer: Laminar flow inside tubes
  • Numerical methods
  • Heat Transfer: Turbulent flow inside tubes
  • Heat Transfer: Turbulent Boundary layer
  • Heat exchanger analysis and design
  • Mass transfer
  • Convective heat transfer at high velocities
  • Free convection boundary layers
  • Mixed convection
