Course Objectives
Introduction of computational fluid dynamics, Classification of partial differential equations; Finite difference formulations; Parabolic partial differential equations; Elliptic partial differential equations; Hyperbolic partial differential equations; Scalar representation of the Navier-Stokes equations; Incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.
Detail Content
Introduction
Classification of partial differential equations
Finite difference formulations
Parabolic partial differential equations
Elliptic partial differential equations
Hyperbolic partial differential equations
Scalar representation of the Navier-Stokes equations
Incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.
Course Outcome
The students would be familiarized with the widely used techniques in the numerical solution of fluid equations (Navier-Stokes Equations)
They would also be able to handle issues that arise in the solution of such equations, and modern trends in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
With the help of term projects, students would also get a practical experience of writing/debugging/optimizing simple CFD code using programming language such as Fortran/C/C++/Matlab.
Text/Ref Books
