Campus College of E&ME
Programs PG
Session Fall Semester 2016
Course Title Computational Fluid Dynamics-I
Course Code ME-831
Credit Hours 3
Pre-Requisutes Nil
Course Objectives Introduction of computational fluid dynamics, Classification of partial differential equations; Finite difference formulations; Parabolic partial differential equations; Elliptic partial differential equations; Hyperbolic partial differential equations; Scalar representation of the Navier-Stokes equations; Incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.
Detail Content
  • Introduction
  • Classification of partial differential equations
  • Finite difference formulations
  • Parabolic partial differential equations
  • Elliptic partial differential equations
  • Hyperbolic partial differential equations
  • Scalar representation of the Navier-Stokes equations
  • Incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.
Course Outcome
  • The students would be familiarized with the widely used techniques in the numerical solution of fluid equations (Navier-Stokes Equations)
  • They would also be able to handle issues that arise in the solution of such equations, and modern trends in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • With the help of term projects, students would also get a practical experience of writing/debugging/optimizing simple CFD code using programming language such as Fortran/C/C++/Matlab.
Text/Ref Books
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (Vol. 1) by Klaus A. Hoffmann and Steve T. Chiang;
  • Student Guide to CFD (Vol. 1) by Klaus A. Hoffmann, Jean F. Dietiker and ApichartDevahastin
