Course Title Computational Fluid Dynamics II
Course Code ME-833
Credit Hours 3
Pre-Requisutes Nil
Course Objectives Familiarize the participants with fundamentals of modelling and simulation of turbulent flows,Introduce the mathematical modelling procedure for various applications regarding internal and external flows, Provide the useful tools for fluid flow analysis and the effect of turbulence on mixing and heat transfer in the fluid domains
Detail Content
  • Familiarize the participants with fundamentals of modeling and simulation of turbulent flows
  • Introduce the mathematical modeling procedure for various applications regarding internal and external flows
  • Provide the useful tools for fluid flow analysis and the effect of turbulence on mixing and heat transfer in the fluid domains
Course Outcome
  • The students would be able to understand and apply advanced CFD techniques such as Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS), Large Eddy Simulations (LES), and Reynolds –Average Navier-Stokes (RANS) to the practical flow of interest.
  • The students would be able to also understand the physical significance of wall function, wall damping, and different Sub-grid Scale (SGS) / turbulence models.
  • Moreover the students would become familiarized with different turbulent statistics employed to characterize turbulence.
