Campus
College of E&ME
Programs
PG
Session
Fall Semester 2016
Course Title
Mechanics of Fiber Reinforced Composite (FRC) Material
Course Code
ME-859
Credit Hours
3
Pre-Requisutes
nil
Course Objectives
To familiarize students with application areas of FRC Materials and provide students with means to select the appropriate composites for a given application, To provide basic means for design and analysis of structures made of composites, To familiarize students with a range of typical processing / manufacturing techniques for products made from FRC with a view to enable students to identify techniques which are more suitable for particular products, To introduce students to the Mechanical testing of FRC for generating design data (mechanical properties), To introduce students to modeling and simulation of failure and damage in FRC.
Detail Content
To familiarise students with application areas of FRC Materials and provide students with means to select the appropriate composites for a given application.
To provide basic means for design and analysis of structures made of composites.
To familiarise students with a range of typical processing / manufacturing techniques for products made from FRC with a view to enable students to identify techniques which are more suitable for particular products.
To introduce students to the Mechanical testing of FRC for generating design data (mechanical properties).
To introduce students to modeling and simulation of failure and damage in FRC
Course Outcome
The student should be able to solve problems related to strength and mechanical properties of different composite materials
Apply the knowledge in development of new morphologies of composite materials and understand their properties for research application
