Course Objectives Course Objectives: This course introduces applied research design in the analysis and study of international peace and conflict. The aim of the course is to look into the field of peace research through the standard research methods in Social Sciences. There will be a greater focus on important issues that conflict resolution researchers face during their investigations. Thematically, there will be focus on the following relevant phenomena, such as conflict, war, peacemaking, peacekeeping, mediation, trust building and the use of competing models. A significant portion of the course will be devoted to understanding the explanation, interpretation, theory and hypothesis in Social Sciences. The course will touch on both qualitative and quantitative approaches in peace and conflict research.

  1. Research methods in social sciences with reference to peace and conflict research;
  2. Critical analysis of peace and conflict research;
  3. Comparative peace and conflict research; and
  4. Quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Course Outcomes
  1. Apply PCS research methodology;
  2. To discuss different models of PCS research; and
  3. Identify ways to improve research on PCS related issues.
